Loch Lomond 16 years 'The Falls of Falloch'

Score: 75

Tasted: July 2026 | Rank: 3 | 5th Whisky Tasting
Region: Highlands

The Loch Lomond 16 Year Old – Falls of Falloch is a calm, composed expression of the distillery’s unpeated Highland style, built on long maturation in American oak and the clean, grassy fruit profile from the straight‑neck stills. Bottled at 46% ABV, non‑chill filtered and naturally coloured, it aims for elegance rather than intensity, a measured, orchard‑driven malt with notes of green apple, pear, citrus peel, vanilla, and gentle toasted oak. The palate is medium‑bodied with a soft waxiness, light spice, and a dry, herbal finish that reflects Loch Lomond’s more restrained side. In the tasting lineup, it placed last of the three not because it was poor, but because it was quiet. Against two bolder, more expressive whiskies, especially the Decadent Drams 15 with its vivid fruit and oily drive, the Falls of Falloch felt more reserved and linear. Tasters noted its clarity and polish, but it didn’t generate the same excitement or standout moments. In a competitive trio, it became the “steady” whisky: well‑made, balanced, and pleasant, yet overshadowed by the energy and personality of the other bottles. *Club Notes* "Tangy sweet green apple, heather, fresh, dry wheat on the nose. Apples, biscuits, amaretto, light oils and toasted oak with a hint of spices. Lingering oak, tangy apple". "Love the nose. Fruits...sharp... fresh...hrass...metal taste on the finish... I feel all warm inside.... very good... but not awesome..." "Wow nice fruity nose and equal taste." "Nice and oily, tastes of the smell of petrichor." "Users club notes not... translatable, but he liked it.."
