Glen Deveron 16 years
Score: 59
Glen Deveron 16 year old made a quietly confident impression in the club tasting, landing 2nd out of 6 in a lineup that didn’t make it easy. Distilled at Macduff in the far northeast of Scotland, it’s part of the Royal Burgh Collection, often found in duty-free shops and overlooked by flashier labels. Bottled at 40% ABV and matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, it’s a mellow Highlander with a touch of polish. The nose is bright and fruity, with sherry-driven notes that go beyond the usual orange, think Meyer lemon peel, mandarin juice, and a hint of toasted cereal. There’s a subtle leathery undertone and a trace of oiled wood that adds depth. On the palate, it’s smooth and balanced: orange oil, ginger, and vanilla over a base of malt biscuits and soft spice. The finish is gentle but satisfying, with almond nougat and a whisper of smoky barrel char. It didn’t steal the show, but it earned its spot with quiet grace. Glen Deveron 16 isn’t trying to be bold or edgy, it’s the kind of dram that wins you over slowly, sip by sip.
