Glen Scotia Single Cask 7 years

This isn’t just another youthful, high-proof coastal malt; it’s a masterclass in regional identity that brought the raw essence of Campbeltown straight into the room. Bottled at a roaring cask strength of 58.5% ABV, this exclusive single cask (#3787) from The Whisky Club shows exactly why Master Distiller Iain McAlister considers this 2017 vintage parcel of first-fill ex-Maker’s Mark Bourbon casks his pride and joy. The premium bourbon wood injects a vibrant, sweet-and-creamy layer, yet the spirit remains defiantly oily, fruity, and unapologetically maritime at its core. On the nose, it opens with a brilliant, lively spread of lemon curd, peach, and apple yoghurt, lifted by tropical pineapple and a distinct wave of signature Campbeltown funk. There’s a wonderful, dessert-like confectionary charm here, but it’s anchored by an industrial, warehouse-floor character that keeps the bright fruits beautifully grounded. The palate is compact, thick, and exceptionally flavour-dense: apple custard laced with warming cinnamon and a sharp crack of sea salt, all dissolving into an incredibly oily finish of buttery vanilla pie and fresh whipped cream. The cask strength delivery is unmistakable, bold, chewy, and expressive, but it carries its massive proof with absolute poise. The finish lingers beautifully, carrying that distinct sweet malt and coastal salinity long after the sip. What set this whisky apart at the club night was its thrilling, uncompromised purity. In a lineup of heavily orchestrated finishes and older maturations, this young heavyweight stood out by offering a direct, unfiltered pipe line to the warehouse dunnage. It didn't need to hide behind complex wine finishes; its victory lay in its raw texture and flawless execution of spirit character. It was a rare, vivid reminder of what makes Campbeltown the most sought-after whisky region on earth. Like dipping a glass straight into a live bourbon cask on a damp, salty morning in a Campbeltown warehouse. A standout single cask that earned its stripes by being undeniably, confidently, and brilliantly itself. "Club Notes" "I want to give this more! This is barrel strength. It’s all caramel and spice. But it’s closed and dusty." " More cask strength Sherry?" "Nose: Remarkably complex and evolving. Initial aromas of floral heather honey and powerful alcohol give way with time to a maritime profile of coastal seaweed.Palate: Bold, intense, and oily. A thick, waxy texture carries a waves of industrial Campbeltown funk and robust sweetness, delivering a sharp, fiery punch.Finish: Medium length and highly textural. Waves of white pepper, warming wood spice, and a residual, oily waxiness linger on the close.----With Water: The dram opens up quicker beautifully, softening the alcohol intensity to reveal a much sweeter, highly floral, and vibrantly peppery character."
