This isn’t just another heavily sherried Highland dram; it’s the whisky that rose above the entire lineup for the evening with quiet authority. Bottled at 53.7% ABV, it shows how structural, unpeated Highland spirit can carry intense wood influence while delivering deep, old-school substance without ever sacrificing its poise. The Oloroso sherry maturation adds immense richness, yet the spirit's signature waxy, robust, and muscular Highland character remains unmistakably confidently itself at its core. On the nose, it opens with dense dark chocolate, orange marmalade, and rich maple syrup, lifted by a distinct undercurrent of vintage leather and polished wood floors. There’s a deeply comforting, autumn-like warmth here, almost like baked apple pastries, anchored by an earthy, old soul depth that keeps the sweet elements completely grounded. The palate is compact, thick, and remarkably flavour dense: full-bodied layers of raisins, ginger biscuits, dark cocoa, and nutmeg, all wrapped in a wonderfully oily, buttery texture. The cask strength delivery is unmistakable, bold, expressive, and muscular, but never unruly. It’s raw power handled with perfect discipline. The finish lingers beautifully, carrying dry sherried oak, warm holiday spices, and orange peel long after the sip. What set this whisky apart, and ultimately earned it first place at the club night, is its exceptional balance between weight and elegance. In a lineup of strong, loud personalities, this was the dram that felt completely resolved, polished, and whole. It didn't need to shout to win the room; its richness had a completeness that simply commanded attention. Like eating citrus-glazed ginger cake inside an old, musty dunnage warehouse full of active Oloroso butts. A standout whisky that claimed its top spot by being unpretentious, incredibly well-constructed, and entirely memorable. *Club Notes* "The overwhelming caramel & raisin/sultana on the nose tells it’s from a warm climate. It’s not young heat like an Aussie cook. There’s an engine oil character too. But the palate has peat… it’s all on the mid palate. Quite short. Some natural Cough medicine herbal finish" "Cask strength. Dry. Sherry? Pretty good man! Glenallachie?" "Red syrupy goodness. Long finish, fantastic" "Nose: Intensely concentrated and complex. Deep dark fruits and rich caramel are layered with mellow baking spices and a hint of polished oak.Palate: Thick, syrupy, and notes of rich caramel and classic Christmas pudding, delivered with a heavy, viscous texture.Finish: Long, spicy, and powerful. A bold wave of hot spice and aromatic anise, transition into a lingering, syrupy sherry sweetness. It left a mouthful of satisfying waxy all around . Unchillfiltered Speyside? Bit funky than usual Speyside."
