Glen Moray 18 years

Score: 76

Glen Moray 18 years—part of the Elgin Heritage range, is a Speyside single malt that wears its age with quiet sophistication. Matured in first-fill American oak barrels and bottled at 47.2%, it’s crafted to be approachable yet refined, showcasing the distillery’s signature fruit-forward style with added depth and polish. In the recent club tasting, it came a close second, just edged out by the bold Ardmore, but not without making its mark. The nose was a graceful blend of juicy stone fruits, apricot and yellow plum, wrapped in soft honey and a touch of shortbread. There was a gentle floral lift, with hints of lavender and dried apple adding aromatic complexity. On the palate, it opened with earthy vanilla and golden syrup, followed by sultanas, toasted almond, and a subtle oak spice that built slowly. The texture was silky and rounded, with a finish that lingered on ginger, cinnamon, and a whisper of dried citrus peel. While it didn’t take the top spot, Glen Moray 18 impressed with its elegance and cohesion. It didn’t shout, it spoke clearly and confidently, offering a layered experience that rewarded attention. In a lineup of bold contenders, it was the whisky that reminded everyone how finesse can still hold its own. *CLUB TASTING NOTES* "Grapefruit marmalade, barley, tasty" "Vanilla, honey, apricot" "Simple easy drop"
