Glen Scotia 'The Mermaid' 12 years

Score: 81

Glen Scotia 'The Mermaid' 12 Year Old is the first release in the distillery’s Icons of Campbeltown series—a limited edition unpeated single malt matured in bourbon casks and finished in Palo Cortado sherry casks. Bottled at cask strength (54.1% ABV), it delivers a striking balance of coastal character and sherried finesse. The nose opens with dried seaweed, citrus peel, and Greek yoghurt, alongside hints of wet rope and baked apples. On the palate, the Palo Cortado influence shines through with dried fruits, orange zest, toasted nuts, and a touch of leather and umami. The finish is savoury and slightly dry, with fennel and a pinch of salt. It’s a complex, maritime dram that captures both Campbeltown’s rugged soul and Glen Scotia’s evolving artistry. CLUB TASTING NOTES "Love the funk, enjoyable and definitely Campbeltown." "Fantastic nose. Funky." "This is much better than the double cask. It is a Campbeltown whisky!" "Oh what a wonderful well rounded dram! The aroma is deep, complex and heady. You’ll be living in your glass for the most part. Take a sip and it takes over your pallet. Well rounded and SO tasty. It’s the perfect whiskey to sip in front of the fire in winter. Sit for 5 mins and you’ll still taste it. All over your pallet slowly dripping down in full bloom. This is it!" "Now we're talking!!! That's a glen Scotia - superb notes from both bourbon & sherry influence. Strong caramel, toffee, and spice with a lovely coastal finish." "Bold, smooth winter warmer. Nice complexity and rich finish." "Sea air entrance, yum depth." "Way better."
