Aberlour A’Bunadh Batch #67
After a long absence from club tastings, Aberlour A’bunadh made a surprise comeback, brought as a bonus dram during the Ben Nevis Distillery Tasting. Though not from the distillery itself, its inclusion turned heads and stirred memories. This was no mere filler: it reminded us how a powerful sherry bomb can enrich and tantalise us all in one. Batch #84 came in swinging at 61.2% ABV, matured exclusively in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. It’s a Speyside classic that thrives on intensity and variation, with each batch offering its own fingerprint. This one delivered a festive nose of orange peel, black cherries, and ginger, followed by a palate thick with dried fruit, dark chocolate, and oak spice. Its return sparked nostalgia, debate, and a few raised eyebrows. Was it as bold as we remembered? As decadent? As dangerous? It still packed enough sherried punch to earn its place, and perhaps, a renewed spot in our collective affections
