Glen Grant The Majors Reserve
Score: 67
Glen Grant The Major’s Reserve is a whisky that’s best enjoyed casually, easy to drink when you're not paying attention, and genuinely refreshing on a hot day with some ice. But if you try to pick it apart, you’ll quickly find that this dram wasn’t made for scrutiny. The nose is easily its best feature, offering a bright burst of tropical fruit, banana, green mango, and pear, layered with vanilla, condensed milk, and soft cereal notes. It’s inviting and expressive, especially for a budget single malt. The palate, however, doesn’t quite deliver. There’s fruitiness in the DNA, but it’s obscured by a slightly hot, thin texture that lacks finesse. The spice leans toward cinnamon and nutmeg, but it feels rushed, and the malt character struggles to assert itself. The finish fades fast, leaving behind a faint trace of oak and vanilla, but little else. This is a whisky aimed at blend drinkers or newcomers dipping a toe into single malts. It’s affordable, light, and inoffensive, but not built for depth or complexity. A dram for the background, not the spotlight. Its ranking of 6th is a fair reflection of the quality.
