Old Particular Tamdhu 16 years

Score: 83

Old Particular Tamdhu 16 Year Old is a single cask Speyside malt bottled by Douglas Laing as part of their highly regarded Old Particular range. Distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2020, it spent its 16 years maturing in a refill butt and was released at a natural cask strength of 48.4% ABV. As with all Old Particular expressions, it’s non-chill filtered and free of added color, preserving the whisky’s full texture and character. The nose is rich and inviting: juicy sweets, oranges, leather, toasted oak, and dark chocolate. On the palate, it delivers a decadent mix of juicy plums, sultanas, banana, and marille doughnuts, with a warming kick of fresh ginger. The finish is long and indulgent, caramel custard and whipped cream linger with a soft, creamy fade. This Tamdhu is a sherried treat, but with a twist, less overt sweetness than its 12-year-old sibling, and more depth from the refill cask. It’s moody, textured, and quietly complex. A bottle that doesn’t shout, but rewards those who listen closely. Perfect for a contemplative evening or a club tasting where subtlety is appreciated.
