Torabhaig Allt Glenn - The Legacy Series
Score: 65
Torabhaig Allt Gleann – The Legacy Series came into the tasting with serious pedigree and intrigue. Bottled at 46%, it’s the second addition to the Legacy Series—and the second-ever release of single malt from the exciting Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye, which first fired up its stills in 2017. Combining small batches distilled in 2017 and 2018, Allt Gleann aims to capture the essence of Skye, brimming with roasty, smoky peat and plenty of maritime character. On paper, it had all the makings of a standout. The nose delivered coastal smoke, charred driftwood, and a touch of vanilla from the bourbon casks. The palate was earthy and peppery, with hints of matcha, apple skin, and sea spray. But for some club members, it felt a bit stiff, like a whisky still finding its rhythm. The peat was present, but not fully integrated, and the texture leaned dry and slightly austere. In the lineup, it landed fifth. Not because it lacked quality, but because it lacked warmth. It’s a whisky that demands patience and perhaps a splash of water to coax out its softer side. For fans of maritime peat and youthful edge, it’s a compelling dram. But in a tasting where charm and cohesion counted, Allt Gleann was more grit than grace. A promising release from a distillery to watch, but not quite the crowd-pleaser on the night.
