Tamnavulin Sherry Cask

Score: 59

Tamnavulin Sherry Cask Edition is a Speyside single malt that leans into approachability and crowd-pleasing charm. Bottled at 40% ABV, it begins life in American oak barrels before being finished in a trio of sherry casks, adding layers of fruit and sweetness without overwhelming the spirit. The nose is a dessert cart of marzipan, banana pancakes, dried apricots, and raspberry jam, while the palate delivers ripe banana skin, baked apples, almond milk, and white chocolate, with a soft, buttery texture that glides easily. The finish is light and airy, with hints of citrus peel and vanilla pod. In the club’s tasting, it came 4th out of 6, a respectable showing for a bottle that doesn’t pretend to be anything more than what it is. Light, sweet, fruity, easy and cheap. If you need something simple to share with friends at the cottage, this is a good one. Perfect for a party, it’s not going to win awards for complexity, but it’s the kind of whisky that keeps glasses full and conversations flowing. A laid-back dram that knows how to play its role.
