Glenrothes Robur Reserve

Score: 65

Glenrothes Robur Reserve came in 6th place, a result that felt fair given its performance. It’s an average entry-level whisky, not entirely balanced, but with just enough character to keep things interesting… for a while. The nose kicks off with a slightly metallic edge, think copper coins, which might’ve thrown a few tasters off. But beneath that, there’s a sweet undercurrent of sultanas, fudge, and caramel, offering a dessert-like charm that’s hard to ignore. On the palate, it leans into nutmeg, clove, and ginger, with a touch of wood spice and a finish that’s short to medium, ending on a sour red apple twist. It’s quirky, yes, but not quite refined, a dram that flirts with complexity but never fully commits. As a travel retail exclusive matured in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, it carries the name of Quercus Robur (European oak) with ambition. But in this lineup, it felt more like a supporting act than a headliner. The club gave it a fair shake, but ultimately, it landed at the bottom of the scoreboard.
