Glenmorangie The Tarlogan
Score: 61
Glenmorangie Tarlogan came last in its tasting, and not without reason. Part of the Legends series and matured in a mix of virgin oak and ex-bourbon casks, it arrived dressed to impress but didn’t deliver where it counted. Sweet at first, with a noticeable alcohol bite and a bitterness that creeps in toward the end, it felt like a whisky trying to do too much without the maturity to back it up. Flavour-wise, it’s a scattershot experience: toasted and malted cereals, vanilla, almonds, cherry-flavoured cough pastilles, raspberries, oak, white chocolate, varnish, dried apricot, and a swirl of spice, pepper, ginger, nutmeg. Even a hint of green apple returns late in the game. But despite this busy profile, it never quite comes together. The Tarlogan is one of those nicely packaged, travel-retail whiskies that looks premium but tastes undercooked. Ultimately, it felt young, overpriced, and out of its depth. A forgettable pour in a lineup that demanded more.
