Glenkinchie Distillers Edition

Score: 59

Glenkinchie Distillers Edition was meant to be a refined twist on the classic 12 year old, double matured in Amontillado-seasoned American oak, promising delicate sherry sweetness and added depth. On paper, it had potential: dried apricots, sultanas, toasted almond, and warming spice on the nose; creamy malt and fruitcake on the palate; a drying, peppery finish. But in practice, it didn’t quite land. Compared to the Glenkinchie 12, the Distillers Edition felt muddled. The sherry influence added complexity, but not cohesion. It lacked the clarity and charm that made the 12 a Champion of Champions. A bit of a flop, really. Not offensive, just forgettable. For a bottle that aimed to elevate the core range, it ended up feeling like a confused remix of something that was already working.
