Bladnoch 19 years 2021 Release

Score: 93

This isn’t your typical sherry-finished showstopper, it’s a masterclass in restraint and refinement. Matured in Pedro Ximénez casks and bottled at 46.7%, it delivers a rich, layered experience without ever tipping into excess. On the nose, you’re greeted with anise, candied pineapple, and ginger snaps, followed by orange peel and a whisper of marzipan. The palate is equally rewarding: raisins, liquorice, citrus zest, and mature oak dance together with nutmeg and roasted almonds. The finish lingers with cassia, cinnamon, and dried fruit, leaving a warm, harmonious impression. What makes this release truly special is its balance. The PX influence adds depth and richness, but never overwhelms the spirit’s floral Lowland character. It’s a whisky that rewards quiet contemplation, yet still shines in a casual club pour. In a lineup of louder, flashier expressions, Bladnoch 19 stands out by being quietly brilliant—a dram for those who appreciate nuance over noise. Like drinking antique mahogany. This drink won the 2024 Champion of Champions for a good reason. It was undeniably the best whisky we had all year. Very pricy but worth it.
