Auchentoshan American Oak
Score: 66
Auchentoshan American Oak is an entry-level release from one of the few remaining Lowland distilleries, aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks. On paper, it promises lightness, approachability, and a clean profile. In practice? It barely registered. The nose offers soft vanilla, a touch of citrus, and some faint oak—but nothing that grabs you. The palate follows suit: thin, slightly sweet, and quickly forgettable. It’s the kind of dram that feels like it’s trying not to offend, and in doing so, forgets to impress. In the tasting, it floundered. Not a fan favourite, not a surprise underdog—just a dram that came and went. Move on. There’s a place for easy-drinking Lowland whisky, but this one didn’t earn it. For those seeking depth, character, or even just a bit of spark, the American Oak left the club wanting more.
