Arran Port Cask
Score: 58
Arran Port Cask came into the tasting with a clear identity: if you like Port and you like single malt, this dram is for you. The influence of the Port cask finish is unmistakable, deeply engrained in every aspect, from the rich ruby hue to the bold, fruity palate. The spirit itself is classic Arran, clean, light, and well-crafted. But the Port finish takes center stage, layering in notes of red berries, stewed fruit, and sweet spice. For some, it was a decadent delight; for others, the finish bordered on overpowering, masking the subtleties of the underlying malt. It ultimately landed 5th in the lineup—not a poor showing, but reflective of its divisive nature. This is a whisky that knows what it wants to be, and doesn’t shy away from it. For fans of fortified wine finishes, it’s a confident pour. For others, it may be a touch too much. Still, it sparked conversation and stood out in its own way. Not every dram needs to please everyone, some just need to be bold enough to be remembered.
