Ardnahoe 5 years Inaugural Release
Score: 70
Ardnahoe 5 Year Old Inaugural Release is a confident debut from Islay’s newest distillery, offering a fresh take on the island’s smoky tradition. Bottled at 50 percent and matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, it delivers a well-balanced profile that feels older than its age. The nose opens with coastal peat, baked apple, smoked meat, and toffee, with lemon zest emerging with a splash of water. On the palate, sweet peat mingles with custard, ginger, citrus, and a touch of honey-roasted ham. The finish is long and clean, with salted caramel and a sea breeze quality that lingers. Despite being just five years old, it shows impressive maturity and clarity. The smoke is present but gentle, avoiding the medicinal edge found in some Islay malts. For club members curious about new Islay voices, Ardnahoe’s first release is a strong statement, distinctive, well made, and promising much for the future
