Lindores Abbey The Cask of Lindores Ex Sherry

Score: 70

Lindores Abbey’s The Cask of Lindores Ex Sherry brought a burst of youthful energy to the club tasting, and it paid off, winning its round with confident flair before landing a respectable fourth in the Champion of Champions. Bottled entirely from Oloroso sherry butts and clocking in at 49.4% ABV, it’s a dram that doesn’t pretend to be older than it is. Instead, it leans into its youth with bold, expressive character: fresh dates, molasses, vanilla, and milk chocolate on the nose, followed by a palate of dried fruits, ginger, chestnuts, and cinnamon. There’s a vibrancy to it—a kind of eager sweetness and spice—that makes it feel alive in the glass. What worked in its favour was precisely that lack of polish. It didn’t try to be brooding or overly complex; it was direct, delicious, and full of Lowland charm. In a lineup of heavyweights, it stood out by being unapologetically fresh. That youthful edge gave it clarity and punch, and while it didn’t quite have the depth to clinch the top spot in the Champion of Champions, it earned admiration for its honesty and exuberance. A whisky that proves sometimes, being young and bold beats being old and subtle—especially when the sherry’s singing and the club’s in full voice.
